The Director of Content Marketing is becoming very important for many companies. It seems to be one of the big areas of growth in the job market.
The Director of Content Marketing is responsible for all content creation, distribution and promotion. Sometimes, the director will be involved in the actual creation of content. In other situations, they will be responsible more for directing the people in the content department.
Usually, the direct works in the marketing department. The goal is ultimately bring in more customers to the business. The content may have the goal of communicating a certain story or voice to potential customers. It may have the goal of providing answers to potential customers as a way to build awareness and trust.
This is also part of what the Director of Content Marketing does – they are often responsible for developing the content strategy and then seeing it carried out. They may work with other directors in the marketing department to develop the strategy. Or they may seek input from others on the overall direction of the company and use that insight to help form the content strategy.
Another aspect of this job is the management of content creators. The creators often create a mix of written content, video content and audio content. Sometimes the creators will be in-house at the organization. They may spend their entire time working on creating content or it may be just one aspect of their job. Other times, the director will be responsible for managing outsource creators. They might work with a content agency of some kind. They may work with freelance creators. Sometimes it’s a mix of both in-house and outsourced creators.
The Director of Content Marketing has become a very important position within marketing departments. Businesses see the value in creating content regularly. But with that comes the need for developing strategy and for organizing all the pieces. That is what the Director of Content Marketing is ultimately responsible for.
