As A Business Owner, Your Job Is To Create Jobs

Lightbulb SunsetWhen I started Ghost Blog Writers about 10 years ago some people close to me questioned it.

There is a large part of the population that feels that to be worthwhile in the world, you have to have a good job.

That’s fine.

Most people have jobs. Most people have a boss. They have tasks that they become really good at and it’s clear what their job is.

As a businessperson, your job changes. You might be a type of freelancer where you not only perform a task, but also the administration aspects of the business.

Or you might look to grow your business and hire someone to do all the tasks in the business. This is an interesting intersection for a novice entrepreneur because you almost feel a little lost. You’re not sure what your job is anymore because you’ve replaced yourself.

You might read that you should work on the business instead of in the business. That’s a little vague, though.

Another way to think about it is to think that as an entrepreneur your job is to create jobs for others. I can’t remember where I read or heard that, but it makes the most sense to me.

And I’ll take it a step further, the job of an entrepreneur is to create the best job opportunities for people. Creating jobs for the sake of creating jobs can be manipulated. You don’t want to hire two people to perform a job that should be done by one person.

But if you focus on creating the best jobs for people you’re focusing on efficiency and production.

I’ve found that this focus helps me see what my purpose is as an entrepreneur. Growth in all areas including profit, which leads to good things for all.
